the night market
ok, i love this night market by our hotel. it's the best one by far! imagine a farmer's market on steroids, crack and extacy in a disco located inside a wall mart. you get the idea, no? it's basically a shopper's paradise whether for food stuffs or fashion or eyecare! yes, they do everything at night in this part of the world, and i walked by a few eye doctor offices who were giving exams at 9 p.m.!
i decide to head out to the night market early -- about 6 p.m. it doesn't really get going until 9 p.m. but i likely will have faded by then. i get some people back home some presents and hit the internet/teen gaming zone cafe for an hour or so. i stopped at my favorite athletic shoe store (since they are always playing Green Day's American Idiot CD). I eye these hiking/outdoor trail shoes that would really come in handy with all of the rain. my shoes are so sad now ... i actually smell them before i open my hotel room door! see, my whole strategery was to bring shoes that didn't need socks, to save on luggage space! but it makes my shoes extra stinky when bare feet are combined with our soggy weather. nothing is dry!
the shoes are about $50 US, which is a bargain, so i get them ... and spring for 4 pairs of socks (they were on sale!). it feels so good to have socks on again -- happy feet! i can't wait to wear the shoes tomorrow. on the walk home the produce guy isn't there, so i get a mango smoothie instead (about $1.25 US), and that's dinner!
peace out for now,
CD

it truly was a treat. i wonder if i'll ever see anywhere else where you can get an eye exam at 9 p.m. -- i thought NYC had it all!
